The veteran left-hander missed with a pitch to run the count to 3-1 on Kelly Shoppach in the third inning and grabbed the inner portion of his upper left leg. He then leaned over and put his hands on his knees before being lifted in favor of David Robertson.

Pettitte entered the game with a record of 11-2 and a 2.70 earned run average in 17 starts this season.

It's the second time in two games that a Yankees starting pitcher left the game with an injury, as A.J. Burnett exited Saturday's contest after suffering cuts to both his hands.
