Glaus leads Blue Jays over Dodgers

06/11/2007 - Los Angeles, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Troy Glaus had three hits, including a pair of solo homers, and scored three runs as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 11-5.

John McDonald went 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored a pair of runs for the Blue Jays, who won the final two games of this three-game series at Dodger Stadium.

Roy Halladay (6-2) pitched seven solid innings to earn the win, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking three. He also had two hits and an RBI in the game.

Luis Gonzalez had a pair of doubles and three RBI for the Dodgers, who lost have lost five of their last six.

Jason Schmidt (1-3) had a poor outing, giving up six runs on nine hits over four-plus innings. The veteran right-hander struck out three and walked a pair.

The Blue Jays came out of the gate and put a pair of runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. Alex Rios led off with a double and came around to score when Matt Stairs followed with a two-base hit. After Wells singled and Glaus walked, Aaron Hill grounded into a 5-4-3 double play that brought in another run, giving Toronto a 2-0 advantage.

Los Angeles answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning. Russell Martin got things going with a two-out single, stole second and came around to score when Gonzalez lined a double to left. Following a walk to Wilson Betemit, James Loney singled to plate Gonzalez and tie the game.

The scoring continued in the second when McDonald drew a lead-off walk and scored one out later when Halladay laced a single to center, making it 3-2.

Toronto continued to put runs on the board in the third when Wells singled with no outs and scored on Glaus's double to center. Two batters later McDonald grounded a base hit to left bringing in Glaus and upping the Jays lead to 5-2.

The one sided affair continued in the fifth inning when the Blue Jays scored four more times. Glaus started the frame by hitting a solo homer to left to increase the lead to 6-2. McDonald, Sal Fasano and Rios added run-scoring singles to account for the 9-2 advantage.

Glaus' second home run of the contest, a solo shot to center in the sixth, gave the Blue Jays a 10-2 lead.

Olmedo Saenz's sacrifice fly in the seventh scored Andre Ethier to cut the Dodgers' deficit to 10-3.

Toronto tacked on another run in the eighth inning on a sac fly by Wells.

Gonzalez hit a two-run double in the ninth inning for the Dodgers to account for the 11-5 final score.

Game Notes

The Dodgers open a three-game series versus the Mets on Monday night, while the Blue Jays head to San Francisco to play the Giants in a three-game set beginning on Monday...Halladay had his first two-hit game of his career...Glaus now has 24 multi-home run games in his career...Attendance was 50,183.

"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.

Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash.  Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
