09/09/2007 - Atlanta, GA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jeff Francoeur's three-run homer highlighted a four-run sixth inning, as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Washington Nationals, 9-2, at Turner Field.
Francoeur ended with four RBI and Mark Teixeira went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Braves, who have won three straight, including the first two games of this three-game set. Brian McCann tallied an RBI and Edgar Renteria, fresh off the disabled list, had two hits and drove in a run for Atlanta, which has won four of five overall to improve to 4-4 on its current nine-game homestand.
Yunell Escobar added a solo homer for Atlanta, which moved within four games of the Padres in the wild card race. San Diego is currently playing the Rockies.
Chuck James (10-10) started on the hill for Atlanta and picked up the win, his first since July 31. The left-hander allowed two runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. He also walked one and struck out four.
Ronnie Belliard hit a two-run homer for the Nationals, who had a five-game win streak halted in the opener of this set on Friday night. Washington has now lost nine of its last 14 games.
Washington made five errors, leading to six unearned runs in the game. Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman made three errors.
The Braves got going in the first inning, taking advantage of an erratic Washington starting pitcher Matt Chico. With the bases loaded and one out, Chico walked Francoeur to force home the first run. Andruw Jones followed with a sacrifice fly to plate another.
Chico managed to settle down and held the Braves in check until the fifth inning. Atlanta tallied four runs in the frame -- one on a fielder's choice ground out by Teixeira and the rest on Francoeur's homer that would not have gone out had it not hit off of right fielder Austin Kearns before just making it over the wall.
Washington got two runs back in the seventh thanks to Belliard's homer.
However, Atlanta got two runs in the bottom of the inning when Teixeira singled home a run and later scored on a bases-loaded walk by McCann. Escobar homered in the eighth to round out the scoring.
Chico (5-8) suffered the setback, surrendering six unearned runs on six hits over five innings.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup
September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com. The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.
Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to name a few. Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR. They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.
The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer. Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
