Ausmus sends streaking Dodgers past Rox in ninth

Baseball Betting Lines

04/25/2009 - Denver, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brad Ausmus drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning, as the Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Colorado Rockies, 6-5, in the opener of a three-game series at Coors Field.

Andre Ethier finished 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI for the Dodgers, who have won 10 of their last 12 games. Manny Ramirez collected two hits and drove in a run, while James Loney added two hits and walked twice.

Eric Stults got the start for Los Angeles and gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Hong-Chih Kuo (1-0) earned the win despite yielding a two-run homer to pinch hitter Clint Barmes which tied the game in the eighth. Jonathan Broxton pitched the ninth and notched his sixth save in as many opportunities.

Todd Helton went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Rockies, who returned home after a 2-6 road trip. Aaron Cook did not factor in the decision after yielding three runs on seven hits with six walks and four strikeouts over six full frames. A 16-game winner last season, Cook has yet to find the win column in 2009. Manny Corpas (0-1) gave up the base hit to Ausmus in the ninth to take the loss.

Los Angeles knotted the score at three in the fifth on Ethier's double and pulled ahead with a two-out rally in the eighth. Ausmus stroked a double to keep the inning alive and a bloop single by pinch-hitter Mark Loretta gave the visitors the lead.

Jason Grilli replaced Huston Street on the mound and Rafael Furcal hit a single to put runners on the corners for Orlando Hudson, who worked a walk to load the bases. With Ramirez batting, Grilli uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Loretta to score for a 5-3 Dodgers lead.

Colorado, though, responded in the home half on Barmes' home run.

Loney doubled to lead off the ninth and scampered home when Ausmus slapped a two-out base hit through a hole on the left side of the diamond.

It was an unsettling start for Cook and the Rockies as the Dodgers plated two runs before an out was recorded in the first inning on singles by Ramirez and Ethier.

Colorado got a run back in the bottom half on an RBI single by Helton and drew even in the third as Garrett Atkins singled in Ryan Spilborghs. A two-out double by Spilborghs chased home Chris Iannetta and gave the Rockies a 3-2 lead in the fourth.

Game Notes

Troy Tulowitzki walked four times for Colorado, which left 12 men on base...Los Angeles stranded 11 runners.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
